Meet Our Team
J. Pearson graduated from Virginia Tech in 1987 with a B.S. degree in Agriculture Economics. While at Tech, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, earning a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army National Guard, where he served for 9 years. J. held various manager and vice presidential positions in the agriculture, importing and automotive industries after graduation.
In 1996, J. founded Carry-On Trailer, which became the largest trailer manufacturer in the world with seven plants in six states and 1,200 employees. Carry-On Trailer was acquired by American Trailer Works in 2010, at which time J. was appointed their Vice Chairman.
Founding P & L Enterprises, a Family private equity firm, in 2013, J is also Chairman of Leisure Products Holdings, LLC(“LPH”). LPH operates three companies in the marine industry with more than 650 employees and over $70 million in revenue.
J. is a President’s Circle Member of Virginia Tech’s UT Prosim Society, Corps of Cadets Alumni Board Chairman, Board Member and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Foundation Board, Kohl Center Board Member and a Professor of Practice for the Agricultural and Applied Economics Department. J. was recognized with the 2013-14 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Outstanding Alumni Leadership Award for his leadership and service to the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, the college, and the university.
He is married to Renae, Virginia Tech Class of 90, and has two children, Anna Kate and Will and resides in Lavonia, GA.
Steve began his professional career with Virginia based regional CPA firm, working primarily on the firm’s SEC audit engagements. Transitioning to the private sector, Steve joined Metro Information Services, then a regional provider of IT Consulting Services to Fortune 500 companies. During his tenure with Metro, he led the company’s financial team that supported company growth from 64 staff members to over 3,400. This period saw the company’s geographical expansion increase nationally from 4 offices to 44, with revenues growing from $4 million to over $300 million. Steve served on the executive team during Metro’s successful IPO and later helped lead the company’s merger and acquisition efforts.
After Metro, Steve founded Aquila Consulting providing fractional CFO services to clients in the services, manufacturing and distribution industries. Subsequently, he served as Chief Financial Officer of The RP55 Group. RP55 consists of several entities that design, manufacture and distribute men’s apparel lines in the U.S. In addition to their apparel lines, RP55 is the U.S. distributor for several international consumer products, including Zound headphones, Super sunglasses and Casio G Shock watches.
In 2013, Steve joined J Pearson in founding P&L Enterprises. Steve serves as Chief Financial Officer of Leisure Product Holdings and is a Board Member.
A veteran of the United States Navy and graduate of Old Dominion University, Steve lives in Virginia Beach, VA with his wife Kelley and their two sons, Alex and Jake.
